Managing Quantity Surveyor – Residential, Mixed Use, Commercial

The Client: 

Our client is a Major UK Residential Contractor. They have a turnover of £750+ Million across the UK. Over the last 25 years they have built partnering relationships and have a substantial order book and large pipeline for upcoming projects across the UK. It’s an exciting time to be part of their business and it is also very likely that they will be delivering their own developments shortly. The New Build business unit which has a current turnover of £100+ Million are looking to grow over the next 5 years to a turnover of more than £250 Million. They tend to take on projects from £2m to £40m.

The Project: 

The project which you will be overseeing is a £50+ Million development on a three-year scheme. The scheme will provide a mix of apartments, duplexes and houses alongside commercial space to be marketed to local businesses. In addition, the scheme will also include improved pedestrian links between the station and the town centre, a new bus station and a new multi-storey car park.

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar
  • Experience within a senior surveying position reporting to either a commercial manager or director
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Excellent negotiation/influencing skills

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • To manage a commercial team to deliver the commercial objectives of the business on designated project(s).
  • To develop strong customer relationships with key clients and Consultants.
  • To take overall responsibility and accountability for the commercial elements on a project(s).
  • To assist the Operations Manager with pre-start planning and programming
  • Management and control of sub-contract accounts and variation accounts, communicating effectively to minimise risk and disputes.
  • Assisting and liaising with the buyers on materials procurement and buying opportunities
  • To manage the day to day cost control, monitoring and reporting
  • Measure progress, submit valuations, final accounts and retention release and monitor receipt of payment in a timely manner
  • Process subcontractor requests for payment in accordance with their sub-contract terms.
  • Manage the costs on a project to ensure both the company and the client is fully advised of the cost situation and commercial risk.
  • Assist in ensuring company with Health & Safety
  • Ensure timely cash flow management for the Client and the group collecting all contract cash on time.

  • £70,000 – £80,000 basic salary (depending on experience)
