Lead Technical Services Manager – Fit Out & Refurbishment, Commercial, Data Centres

The Client: 

Our client is the number 1 fit out and refurbishment contractor in the East Coast of America. (Washington, Seattle, Chicago and New York.). They have established an excellent reputation for outstanding delivery and client liaison. As a market leader, they established their London business over 25 years ago and have a robust and profitable business model. They have developed a strong leadership team currently turnover £130 Million in London with a calculated business plan to grow to circa £200 Million in the next 5 years considering potential changes in the market.

They specialise in Commercial Fit Out, Cut & Carve and specialist Data Centres and have three core Divisions (Minor Works, Core and Major Projects.)  Project Values range from under £1 Million – more than £80 Million

Due to an influx of work, they are now looking to bolster their Operational Team with a Lead Technical Services Manager within their Refurbishment Division.

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • A good understanding of both mechanical and electrical services coming from a mechanical trades background or professional qualification in engineering
  • Good communication and people management skills both upstream and downstream, including delivering progress and finance reports
  • Good leadership and decision-making skills with experience of managing specialist M&E install teams.
  • Consistent and conscientious ensuring high standards are met in terms of meeting progress targets according to the programme of works, quality compliance according to the drawings and specifications, and health and safety regulations
  • Ability to build and develop long-term relationships with external professionals, clients, contractors and suppliers.
  • Main Contracting background working as a TSM / Senior TSM that has a proven track record of delivering fast track commercial office fit out projects.
  • HNC/HND would be desirable

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Leading the engineering and delivery of building services elements of the construction project. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking the project from preconstruction to project handover. The role will be reporting into a Head of M&E.

  • Be the face of the company when it comes to the BID process and selling to Clients/Consultants
  • Working alongside the Project Director when it comes down to Estimating & Tendering new projects
  • Leading the MEP element in BID Meetings
  • Looking after a M&E business unit worth circa £30M
  • Managing and mentor a team of Technical Services Managers that vary in different levels. Delegate the workload to all the TSMs once the work is won
  • Reviewing drawings and advising the design team on the coordination of the M&E services within the overall building design
  • Tender review and sub-contractor selection
  • Input in to the construction programme and integrating the M&E programme in to it, including the commissioning phase
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress against the project programme working closely alongside the project team and driving the M&E install accordingly
  • Testing and checking installations and ensuring the commissioning is planned and carried out effectively
  • Ensuring building regulations and health and safety requirements are met
  • Attending meetings and presenting ideas and progress reports to managers and clients
  • Advising clients on how the building services will operate once the building is complete as part of the handover process
